White sage burns with a strong, heavy smoke and is the most commonly used bundle for a full room clearing. Yerba santa burns lighter and a bit sweeter. Palo santo is a dense, aromatic wood rather than a leaf bundle, so it smolders slowly once lit rather than producing thick smoke. All three are dried, natural, unprocessed plant material.
       
To use, light one end until it catches, let it burn for a few seconds, then blow out the flame so it smolders and smokes. Move it slowly through a room over a heatproof dish, and always keep a window cracked and something fireproof underneath in case of falling ash.
